i've seen ben klock a few times in his natural habitat in berlin, and have always been sucked in. his recent productions have been mostly great too - the 'scenario' doublepack has stood the test of time thus far, no? anyway, he was in dublin last night, cramming as much as he could into a two-hour set at electric city. and it was fantastic - he's quite a dj. technically, he impressive, but you have to pay attention: he appeared to be doing little for some periods, but i was reliably informed he was working the two turntables and cdjs, with some custom edits on the little silver discs.
his set felt like one of his six-hour slogs on fast-forward: a series of gradual builds and drops, with the intensity ratcheting up a notch each time. it progressed quite pleasingly too: moving from sparser stuff at the outset (one from the 'scenario' release, a pan sonic track that really didn't sound like pan sonic and his next release) into more conventional territory (the deetron remix of 'evil edna' [thanks eddie] and one from matthew styles' last ep [thanks jay]). only problem is it petered out toward the end. guess you can't have it all, eh?
a top warm-up set from jay galligan too, cheap beer and a monster soundsystem too. maybe you can almost have it all...
